چکیده

ENVISAT Microwave Radiometer (MWR) and Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) water vapour products are received, monitored and validated at ECMWF. The corresponding model total column water vapour (TCWV) product is used for the verification. The MWR products are generally of good quality since late November 2003. However, there are several apparently wrong measurements due to the sea ice contamination. Most of those measurements can be eliminated by making use of the model ice mask. On the other hand, MERIS TCWV is of satisfactory quality since early May 2006. The product is, in general, dryer and noisier than the model or even the MWR measurements. Jason-1 microwave radiometer (JMR) TCWV product, which is also received and validated, is used for the verification as well. Preliminary results of triple collocation exercises showed that JMR has lowest error (less than 4%) followed by MWR and the model with errors slightly more than 5%. MERIS has the largest error of about 16%.

Reduction of Atmospheric Water Vapour Effects on Envisat Asar Interferograms Using Meris near Ir Measurements

Atmospheric water vapour effects represent a major limitation of repeat-pass Interferometric SAR (InSAR) techniques including InSAR time series approaches (e.g. permanent scatterers (PS) and small baseline subset (SBAS)). In this paper, it is demonstrated that atmospheric water vapour effects greater than 4 cm can be observed even in desert regions (e.g. Southern California) and the use of MERI...

Comparison of Theoretical and Empirical Algorithms for the Estimation of Atmospheric Water Vapour Amounts Using Aatsr Data

Simulated satellite measurements using a state-of-theart atmospheric infrared transmission model are used to derive theoretical algorithms to derive total water vapour amounts (TWV) in the atmosphere using infrared measurements from the Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer (AATSR) flying on ESA’s Envisat satellite. An earlier analysis published in 2004 [1] developed similar empirical algori...

Meris Ipwv Validation: a Multisensor Experimental Campaign in the Central Italy

This paper reports the results of an experimental campaign carried out in the Central Italy, considering also part of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Integrated precipitable water vapour estimates obtained from measurements of multiple sensors were produced for a period of about one year, with the purpose of validating the corresponding MERIS estimates. The validation is performed both at specific location...

Validation of Chlorophyll Fluorescence Derived from Meris on the West Coast of Canada

RESUME We have received level 1 data (calibrated radiances in each of the 15 spectral bands of the baseline band-set) for all the above 156 scenes, and level 2 data (atmospherically-corrected radiances, and derived products) for 111 scenes, a total of 42 in 2002, 33 in 2003 and 35 in 2004. All the above data are at the reduced resolution (RR) of 1200 m, comparable to SeaWiFS and MODIS. One impo...

Ra-2/mwr Cross-calibration and Validation: Objectives, Approach, Results and Recommendations

ENVISAT carries a new generation radar altimeter (RA-2) and a microwave radiometer (MWR). RA-2 provides improved measurement performances and many new capabilities, which will benefit the science and application community. With almost two decades of altimetric measurements acquired by ESA, long-term evolution of parameters playing a key role in climate change can be addressed. This requires hom...
